The Teenage Parents Project

The third voluntary organisation featured in Secret Millionaire, Teenage Parents Project provides practical, emotional, and mentoring support for Teenage Parents raising awareness and aspirations through education.

They help through providing premises open 5 days a week and exceptional services specifically for teenage parents and their children.

We offer pre-school education within our creche and have NVQ Level's 2 and 3 in Child Development Workers in place who make available a range of activities for the age and stage of the children's development. We ensure our children have a positive experience and develop new skills which are transferable when they attend mainstream nursery. The creche staff team were once members and gained qualifications through the project, bridging gap within the community and increasing provision at the project.

They offer teenage parents weekly Drop In Sessions facilitated by project workers, giving parents the opportunity to meet with others in similar situations and build support networks, breaking down isolation. Within these group settings they are encouraged to devise their own quarterly activity programme, with the aim of creating ownership. Through the attendance of Drop In Sessions, parents' confidence grow, leaving them wanting to achieve and increase their attainments.

The project was about to close when Dawn dicovered this little jem of an organisation.

"Deana stone, who runs the project is an inspration to the teenagers. She mothers all  and injects so much love and guidence," says Dawn. "I believe that what this project has to offer should be replicated all accross the whole country. The Teenage Parent Project is a shining example of how charities and voluntary organisations can transform people's lives - in this case, not just the teenagers, but their babies too."

"The children teenagers who have attended the pre-school creche are attaining very high grades at school, which reflects all the thought and dedication that has gone into the project."

Dawn believes that busineess can also learn from this project, from the way that the teenagers them selves participate in, and run, the organisation
