Hi Tech, Feng Shui and the Environment?
Well, they don't come higher tech than Intel - the company that revolutionised microprocessor technology and is now the world's undisputed market leader. The company that turned over $38 billion last year. And they certainly have the highest ideals when it comes to the environment. This is the company that has reduced its company-wide green-house gas emissions by 56% since 2000 and by 20% since 2004. More than three billion gallons of water have been reclaimed in 2007 and more than 80% of waste has been recycled. Going forward, the company plans to purchase energy provided by renewable sources, such as wind, solar, hydro-electric and biomass. Intel claims that the impact will equal to taking 185,000 cars off the roads. And this is the company that recognises the key role that Feng Shui can play. Intel has consulted with feng shui masters to develop a harmonious relationship with the wind, sun and interior space of 'the fab'* (scheduled to begin construction in 2010 in Dallan, China). "It is wonderful to see such a high tech company recognising the value of Feng Shui. 'The fab' will use the sun’s seasonal path to optimize heating and cooling loads. The fab will be in alignment with the feng shui concept of “qi” – flow of energy." - Dawn Gibbins MBE
* The FAB LAB concept was created by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's (MIT) Dr. Neil Gershenfeld and documented in his book “FAB: The Coming Revolution on your Desktop.” |
